This quilt was created by Christine Enedy in 1997 as the final project for an art class at Penn State University. Each of its 25 blocks has a pair of underwear (Hanes Her Way cotton briefs)with a red cross stitched on the crotch. "The crosses placed in the crotch were meant by the artist to represent the sacredness of her virginity and the idea of that virginity being protected by the church."
It caused an uproar to the extent that a state senator threatened funding cuts if it were not removed from display. However, the University supported Enedy's right to exhibit.
